Los Angeles-based Bleached set to play 7th Street, 8/31

Los Angeles-based Bleached is slated to play the iconic 7th Street Entry next Thursday, August 31st. Bleached is a four-piece made up of sisters Jennifer and Jessica Clavin and their friends Micayla Grace and Nick Pillot. Their show at 7th Street is one of their headlining dates before they embark on a massive tour with Against Me! this September. Tickets are just $14 in-advance and still available online HERE.

Bleached is one of those bands you can’t put in a box, you can’t really stick a label on. Sure – in one sense they are rock n’ roll, punk, garage rock, whatever you want to call it. But there is something different about this quartet that you can’t really pin down. Perhaps this categorical ambiguity comes from the Clavin’s sisters deep musical roots. Growing up in LA their itinerary of shows included the likes of the Adolescents, the Dickies, X, TSOL. “We were obsessed with the Slits, Blondie, Siouxie and the Banshees. One weekend we went to see F Minus at the Glasshouse,” it was after that show they decided to start a band, according to Jennifer Clavin (via First Avenue).

As a largely female band, Bleached is no strangers to the ever annoying question “what’s like being a girl in a rock band” and any variation of that question (which in this writer’s humble opinion needs to die). Jennifer Clavin so eloquently addresses this, “Here is my answer to your question. Being girl in a band is no different than being a girl in any field. We have people constantly pointing out our gender as if it relates to our ability to do our job…my band is labeled as a “girl band” or a “female fronted” band. Why the necessity to differentiate? Is it a warning? Women have been playing rock music for decades. When does the novelty wear off? The labeling is reductive. And does not (and has not) done us any favors. When can my band simply be labeled as “a punk band”?”

Come experience Bleached for yourself, next week at The Entry!
