The ‘Heatseekers Winter Tour’ will be coming to First Avenue and bringing Iration, Ballyhoo!, Iya Terra, and The Ries Brothers with it on Friday, February 28th.
Iration is an alternative/reggae group of musicians formed in Isla Vista, CA. A deep-rooted reggae influence is fused with elements of rock and pop to create smooth original sounds – “We’re all about luv”, states the band. The group is made up of members Joseph Dickens (Drums), Joseph King (Engineer), Cayson Peterson (Keyboard/Synth), Micah Pueschel (Guitar/Lead Vocals), Adam Taylor (Bass), and Micah Brown (Guitar/Vocals).
All of the members of Iration met while growing up in Hawaii but formed the band after reconnecting in Santa Barbara, CA – the exception being Micah Brown who officially joined the group in 2014. Iration has been touring nationally since 2008, performing at national festivals like Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Hangout, and many others. These Hawaiian-bred musicians look forward to spreading their original sound and Aloha spirit all the while never forgetting to get a surf in when possible.
As the genre of Reggae continues to evolve, Iya Terra has remained distinguished in both sound and sustenance throughout their 4-year journey. Mashing up messages of traditional Roots music in a today version, the Los Angeles based band demonstrates a modern approach to creating conscious soundwaves that has them bound for infinite possibilities. In 2016, Iya Terra reached new heights as they toured heavily throughout the western U.S. with bands such as The Movement, New Kingston and Arise Roots.
I’m super stoked to see Ballyhoo! on this bill. Hailing from Aberdeen, MD, Ballyhoo! has spent the last decade grinding away relentlessly on the road while refining their reggae-infused punk rock sound. Appealing to fans of all ages, their seamless blend of island vibes, high-energy rock, and catchy melodies have set them apart from the pack. They’ve sold over 100k records internationally, and are currently celebrating nearly 15 million Spotify streams of their song “Walk Away.”
Kicking the night off will be The Ries Brothers. The Ries Brothers (pronounced ”Rees”), a duo from Tampa Bay, FL, blend rock, blues, funk, and reggae into a soulful-sophisticated sound. Older brother Charlie (23) sings lead vocals while SIMULTANEOUSLY playing drums and keyboard bass giving the band its unique and full sound. Younger brother Kevin Jordan (20) completes the band’s “sonic creativity” on guitar, provides background vocals and co-writes many of their songs.
