grandson brings his No Apologies Tour to the Amsterdam Bar & Hall on Friday March 8th after just releasing his follow up EP A Modern Tragedy Vol. 2 on February 22nd. His debut EP A Modern Tragedy Vol. 1 contained the hit single Blood//Water which peaked in both the Top 20 Mainstream Rock Songs and Alternative Songs. DES ROCS and BarlowLN are the opening bands for the SOLD OUT show. Go HERE for more information on the show and to check if any additional tickets get released.

grandson is a 23-year-old alternative artist hailing from Canada. Born in the small town of Englewood, New Jersey, he relocated to the cultural melting pot of Toronto at a young age, and grew up surrounded by music ranging from jazz to rock & roll to rap, dancehall and R&B. At 17, he moved to Montreal to attend university, and began working in nightclubs cleaning tables and DJing. He started writing music at this time, incorporating the unique blend of sounds he grew up surrounded by. He started experimenting with music production and rapping in 2013, dropped out of school and headed to Los Angeles to pursue music full time.

Adopting the “grandson” moniker while living in LA, he dove deeply into rock influences such as Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin, while keeping an ear on the rap/R&B music emerging out of Toronto and alternative acts such as Twenty One Pilots and Hiatus Kaiyote. He found a small community of musicians to work and perform with in LA and eventually formed his band. Reminiscent of early punk and grunge music, grandson’s live set attempts to create a frantic, mosh pit-inducing cathartic release of energy for fans.

Searching for his voice and for meaning in today’s divisive, chaotic world, grandson’s songwriting confronts the most pressing issues of his generation, such as financial inequality, governmental and environmental accountability and social justice, giving these topics a soundtrack with a genuine sense of urgency and frustration, while simultaneously touching on adolescence, relationships, and the insecurities and difficulties of growing up through your twenties. When asked about today’s music scene, he says “I genuinely believe the world needs honest rock and roll, now more than ever.”

DES ROCS

Singer and songwriter Des Rocs has set his sights on reigniting the grandiosity of rock music. The New York City native has cultivated a gritty yet infectious sound that nods to vintage rock n’ roll while offering a modern alternative twist. He’s created bombastically loud music constructed unironically for speakers that hit 11, buzzing with all the electricity of contemporary hits.

BarlowLN

BarlowLN, Virginian native Evan Barlow, is the unapologetic poet this generation needs. Unafraid to bend the rules, he combines childhood influences 2Pac and Eminem with the poetry of Bob Dylan and grit of Johnny Cash. The result is a modern day Americana that is all at once visceral, confessional, sincere and raw. “My debut album was originally written like a story of my life from 14 to 20 years old. Starting at the beginning of my teenage party years and ending at rock bottom when I was in jail due to my heroin use. And, my mother passed away. It’s been a wild ride that’s for sure, glad I was able to make it out alive and put it into art.” With his debut album complete and exec produced by Grammy winning producer Martin Terefe, BarlowLN will be releasing via Locomotion Recordings in partnership with the new Elektra Music Group / Warner from early 2019.
