Glassjaw and Quicksand (two post-hardcore legends) will be at The Varsity Theater on Monday, July 9th.

Glassjaw is an American post-hardcore band from Hempstead, New York. The band is fronted by vocalist Daryl Palumbo and guitarist Justin Beck, and was a major part of the Long Island music scene in the early 2000s. The band has been influential in the progression of the underground music scene in the eastern United States and United Kingdom and on the post-hardcore genre, and are known for their intense live shows and frequent line-up changes. The band’s sound has always been rooted in the New York hardcore scene. Elements of the late 1980s youth crew style of hardcore are prominent in their earlier recordings, and Youth of Today have been cited as an important influence. Beck has cited Faith No More’s attitude towards making music as an influence, while Palumbo has specifically cited Mike Patton as a huge influence on him. Apart from this, Palumbo’s lyrics are known to frequently quote other artists as a tribute, quoting acts such as Frank Zappa, Tori Amos, Gravediggaz, among others.

Quicksand is an American post-hardcore band from New York City, United States, founded in 1990. Their debut self-titled EP was followed by two major label albums, Slip (1993) and Manic Compression (1995). Quicksand’s sound has been compared to that of post-hardcore bands Fugazi and Helmet. The band supported their releases with extensive touring but fell short of the mainstream success anticipated by their labels. These factors and internal stress led them to separate first in 1995 and again in 1999 following a failed year-and-a-half reunion. In June 2012, Quicksand reunited for a special one-night performance and since has been playing additional live shows. The band’s third album (and first full-length in 22 years), Interiors, was released on November 10, 2017.

Tickets are still available here.
