One of America’s most iconic bands is coming to St Paul over the first weekend of October.  Tickets and details can be found HERE.   Please note that Covid protocols are in place and proof of vaccination will be required for entry.

Few bands can claim to be first at anything.  The Eagles of the 1970s literally exploded into the nation’s consciousness in 1972 with their self titled debut.  That first effort produced enduring top 40 hits Take It Easy and Witchy Woman.  The band quickly followed it up with Desperado, which became one of the biggest sellers of all time.

One of the hardest challenges in recording is hitting three home runs in a row.  They never blinked.  On The Border went double platinum. All of that was prelude to 1976s One Of These Nights, which debuted on top and produced 3 top ten singles.

By this time, most bands are splintering under the weight of their own success (and excess).  Founding member Don Henley took the reins for the fifth major success in the span of 5 years, Hotel California.  For many listeners it was the crossover album from alt country to straight forward rock.  The title track remains as beloved, covered and relevant today as it was 45 years ago.

In it we hear the first recognition of American excess and moral malaise.  In the span of less than 15 years popular music had gone from The Beatles I Love You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah to a strung out protagonist marking time in a burned out paradise.  Hotel California was as much a commercial success as it was a harbinger of things to come.

It is expected that The Eagles will perform the album in its entirety, along with a sampling of hits across their long career.
