The legendary Anvil will be taking over The Turf Club in Saint Paul on Saturday, April 20th for a can’t miss show.

Anvil are a Canadian heavy metal band from Toronto, Ontario, formed in 1978. The band consists of Steve “Lips” Kudlow (vocals, guitar), Robb Reiner (drums) and Chris Robertson (bass). To date, the band has released sixteen studio albums, and has been cited as having influenced many notable heavy metal groups, including Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax and Metallica.

The band, in particular Kudlow and Reiner, was the subject of the 2008 documentary film, Anvil! The Story of Anvil, directed by the screenwriter and former Anvil roadie, Sacha Gervasi. Upon its release, the film garnered critical acclaim from many major publications, and has since brought the band renewed recognition, including opening slots with AC/DC and Saxon.

Appearances at major heavy metal festivals, including Download, Loud Park and Hellfest, and independent music festivals like Bumbershoot and SXSW, also followed the release of the film. Reviewers described Anvil as a pioneering hair metal band that was popular in the 1980s but then faded into obscurity in the 1990s, while refusing to stop playing, recording and gigging. Anvil’s antics on and off stage, the setbacks they suffered, and their determination to keep going have been compared to the fictional band Spinal Tap.

Comedian Don Jamieson will be joining Anvil for this Saturday night show. Don is best known as co-host of VH1 Classic’s hit heavy metal talk show series, That Metal Show where legends of rock hang out to discuss their past and current projects in front of a live studio audience. Rolling Stone Magazine dubbed the program one of the 50 Best Reasons To Watch TV! He also co-hosted Beer Money, a fast-paced, non-traditional sports quiz show airing on SNY (SportsNet NY). He is currently co-hosting a new rock web-series with former Fox News correspondent and fellow rock fan, Juliet Huddy, on BlondeandCrossbones.com.

Also joining in on the fun will be young band Archer Nation. From Santa Cruz, California, ARCHER NATION is a young touring trio determined to deliver genuine and unrelenting hard rock and heavy metal music to fans everywhere. Keyhan’s unique drumming, David’s masterful bass duties, and Dylan’s captivating blend of shredding and singing make for an exciting modern take on the genre while paying homage to the heavy metal inspirations that drive them.

DJ Danny Sigelman will be DJing throughout the night. Danny Sigelman is a DJ, writer, musician, and artist who has worked for Radio K, KFAI, 89.3 The Current, China Radio International, Secret Stash Records, and the Dakota Jazz Club. His fascination with music and pop culture forges his insight in reviewing live music.
