The Wombats at the Fine Line Go Show – SOLD OUT

Wombats fans. Thousands of ‘em. The Reading & Leeds promoter checking his onsite heat-tracking app was stunned to discover hordes of fans descending en masse on the Festival Republic Stage set like an alien swarm, one of the biggest stage-rushes of the 2015 festival. Two months later the band stepped onstage to headline Alexandra Palace for the first time, kicking off the most euphoric pop party of the year. Somewhere between those two moments, the UK went Wombats crazy. Again.

The show is sold out but listen in on GO96 for chances to win tickets

Tove Styrke at the Amsterdam – TICKETS

You know, those Russian submarines that get caught sneaking into Swedish waters? They must be releasing some sort of hit making chemical in the water. How else would you explain the steady stream of pop hits coming out of the tiny country of 8 million?

The latest is Tove Styrke who is currently on tour promoting her album “Sway”. She got here start on Swedish Idol (yes that’s a thing, and if you check out Youtube, it’s a very interesting thing 🙂 ). With her third album she has drawn the attention of Katy Perry and Lorde both of whom booked her as opening act on their tours.

Wild Age EP Release Show at the Entry – TICKETS

Wild Age, a Minneapolis five piece, began churning out hooky, synth-laced guitar pop in 2015 when songwriter/guitarist McCoy Seitz and longtime friend/multi-instrumentalist Blair Ransom found themselves reunited in their home city. Joined shortly after by guitarist Matt Ahart, drummer/producer August Ogren, and bassist Leng Moua, the group has since released two EPs (2016’s sparse, vibey Two Palms and 2017’s slick, pop-centered Wild Age Goes Crazy) and a number of singles while developing a reputation in the Minneapolis music scene as a formidable live act.

Their upcoming release, Sea of Health, is a juxtaposition of sunny melodies and ear worm choruses with darker lyrical themes of paranoia, introversion, and self doubt. The recordings were tracked live at The Petting Zoo, a studio operated by drummer August Ogren, resulting in a rawer production and more honest feel than on the group’s previous releases.

With Appearances at notable clubs in the Twin Cities, Including Turf Club, 7th Street Entry, Icehouse, Amsterdam, Triple Rock and more, and with regional dates planned this fall around the release of Sea of Health.

Trevor Powers at the Turf Club – TICKETS

Trevor Powers (born March 18, 1989 in San Diego, CA) is an American musician, producer, and composer based in Boise, ID. He began recording music in 2011, releasing a trilogy of albums under the moniker Youth Lagoon before announcing the end of the project in 2015. While taking crash courses in classical theory, jazz, and ancient modes throughout the time that followed, Powers started making music experiments inspired by the visual works of artists such as Francis Bacon, Sister Gertrude Morgan, and Harry Clarke. Lining his walls in crude print-outs of pictures, he found graphic saturation helped inform the social and spiritual themes of his music.

For two years, Powers crafted his own library of sounds, grotesque and bewitching, to serve as the backbone to the poetry he had been writing while traveling between Europe, Asia, and the United States. Embracing a combination of noise, beauty, and mercurial avant-pop atmospheres, he began molding these experiments into songs highlighting the intersection of unity and chaos, nightmares, and the invisible forces at war within the human self.

Retreating to Tornillo, Texas, Powers brought his songs and a handful of contributors to Sonic Ranch, a residential studio complex in the middle of a 2,300 acre orchard, to record Mulberry Violence – the debut album under his birth name. The six-week tracking process consisted of fusing together and manipulating elements recorded over the previous two years with textures, arrangements, and programming created at the ranch. The album was mixed in Los Angeles by frequent Beyoncé collaborator Stuart White.

The Steeles at St. Olaf Catholic Church – TICKETS

The Steeles consist of five siblings; J.D., Fred, Jearlyn, Jevetta, and Billy Steele. They have been singing together since they were children growing up in Gary, Indiana where they began to develop their style and soul. Each came to Minnesota for different reasons; however, it is clear they were meant to be a part of the Minnesota sound. They have recorded and performed with Prince, Donald Fagen, Morgan Freeman, George Clinton, Mavis Staples, Johnny Lang, Peabo Bryson, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, and others throughout their long and storied career.

Their melodic sounds have been heard around the world including Carnegie Hall, Paris, London, Barcelona, Italy, Moscow, Brazil, Scotland and around the US. The Steeles have also contributed to several film soundtracks including the documentary Hoopdreams, Graffiti Bridge, Blank Man, and Corrina, Corrina. The siblings continue to perform in world class productions around the globe both collectively and individually.

Valley Queen at the Entry – TICKETS

The full-length debut from Los Angeles-based band Valley Queen, Supergiant takes its title from the most massive and luminous yet fastest-burning stars in the universe. “The song ‘Supergiant’ is about how we’re all made up of the same stuff as stars, and I liked the idea of tying the whole album together with that metaphor,” says Carol. “It takes all the drama you hear on the record—the aggressive, chaotic moments, and the more beautiful or quieter moments—and puts it all into a more galactic perspective.” With the album finished and ready to be released into the world, it’s now easier for Carol to take a step back and be philosophical but there were moments when it almost seemed like Supergiant would never come to light.

The first iteration of Valley Queen formed not long after Carol moved to L.A. and crossed paths with Neil Wogensen through the local music scene. With Shawn Morones and drummer Gerry Doot later joining the lineup, the band named themselves Valley Queen in a nod to the region where ancient Egyptians buried their deceased matriarchs. They released the singles “In My Place” and “High Expectations,” as well as 2017 EP Destroyer to widespread critical acclaim. The band also supported artists including Laura Marling and Thao & the Get Down Stay Down on tour. Musically and creatively, they were in a place they never dreamed of.
