Do you feel like it’s time to boogie?

Alligator Records guitar heavyweight Nick Moss has teamed up with highly regarded harp wizard Dennis Gruenling. They are currently touring their highly acclaimed new album The High Cost of Low Living which dropped March 9.  The band is scheduled to appear at The Hook and Ladder in the Longfellow neighborhood on April 26 at 7pm.  Tickets and info available HERE

Moss is no stranger to blues aficionados.  Raised in the rough and tumble juke-joints of Chicago’s South and West Sides he’s garnered 21 Blues Music Award nominations over the course of his 30 year, 13 album career.  Gruenling hails from New Jersey and is generally acknowledged as occupying the top of the blues harp mountain these days.  His playing style has been favorably compared to the likes of James Cotton and Charlie Musselwhite.  Together they’re a blues tour de force.

Living Blues magazine says:

“Moss’ muscular, electric energy combines jaw-dropping guitar, gruff, soulful vocals and
impassioned songwriting. Gruenling is a contemporary harmonica master…impressive, genuine
and fresh-sounding.”

Be thankful you have a local chance to catch one of the best blues acts going.  The last two times I set out to catch Moss, in Chicago and Memphis, the venues were “not even a ghost of a chance” sold-out.  His sheer musical muscle warrants arriving early.

The Hook and Ladder is located at 3010 Minnehaha Ave So, the corner of Lake and Minnehaha.  The Hook is a perfect venue  for Moss and Gruening.  Fiercely independent and run by some of the unsung heroes of the local music scene, this is a club that’s only getting better as it strives to improve the entire arts community.

For fans of the blues and guitar shredding mastery, The High Cost of Low Living Tour is a must-see event.
