Cage the Elephant @ Myth 6/3/2015

Kentucky band Cage the Elephant has been a favorite of alternative and rock stations. Their stop in the Twin Cities has been highly anticipated and the only reason their show did not sell out instantly was baby boomer parents dragging their kids kicking and screaming to see the Rolling Stones concert. I am certain the juveniles in question expressed their gratitude while standing in the rain at TCF stadium.

The rain did not tamper the mood of the crowd as the lines to get into the Myth snaked through the parking lot. Inside the mood was boisterous and the all ages crowd seemed to enjoy all 3 band in the lineup (Joywave and Nothing More). Since all 3 bands are currently headlining their own tours there must have been several idle opening bands roaming the Twin Cities.

Cage the Elephant  is made up of Matthew “Matt” Shultz (lead vocals), Brad “Dave” Shultz (rhythm guitar), Jared Champion (drums, percussion), Daniel “Tich” Tichenor (bass guitar, backing vocals), Matthan Minster (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals), and Nick Bockrath (lead guitar). They are currently working on a new album whose title has not been announced.

The band took to the stage with a guitar solo and launched into “Spiderhead”. Lead singer Matt Shultz’s energy on stage a sight to behold. He is constantly on the move and get close to and into the audience. The band sounded tight and lighting was quite good. Overall a great show and a bargain if you take the 2 other bands into account.
