Punk Rock Legend Billy Idol is not letting the fact that he is almost 60 slow him down. He recently launched a new album – Kings & Queens of the Underground and is on an global tour to promote it. The first stop was scheduled for the Twin Cities, but with little warning. Local radio station, The Current, was able to engage him for their 10th Birthday Celebration. The caveat was that it was and acoustic set at a fairly small venue, the Turf Club (capacity 300). Tickets were gone in minutes and were a high priced commodity.
Billy and his guitarist Steve Stevens played a 6 song set featuring his classic hits and none of the new material. Billy sounded great and I enjoyed the format, although I ( and 99.999% of the audience) would have loved to see the full rocking show in all its glory. Here’s to hoping he will be back for another tour!
