Johnnyswim is as duo made up of Amanda Sudano-Ramirez and Abner Ramirez. Last year they release a Christmas themed album “A Johnnyswim Christmas” and are currently their 2nd annual tour promoting it. The duo has been active for a decade and has released a number of EPs and albums with their most recent one being “Diamonds”. Their next release “JOHNNYSWIM: Live at Rockwood” is due out next year.
They stopped at the Varsity Theater yesterday and set up the stage with Christmas trees and other Holiday themed lights. The atmosphere fit really well with the venue’s chandeliers and overall looks. I am usually not a big fan of holiday shows but have to confess I really enjoyed their set. Sudano-Ramirez has inherited a good bit of her mother’s (Donna Summer) stage presence and there is great chemistry with her husband Abner. They mixed a few of their original songs in with the holiday classics. Their rendition of “Baby it’s cold outside” worked particularly well for me.
