Gogol Bordello at First Avenue – 11/13/2015

Just a few hours before heading to First Avenue Friday night, we received the news from the terror attacks in Paris, including storied concert venue “Bataclan”. It was still in my (and everyone) else’s mind at show time. In the short time since the attacks First Avenue had responded and security had been stepped up without reaching TSA ridiculous levels.

Once inside the mood was cheerful and the outfits were quite inspired. All kinds of Gypsy themes and for some reason leopard prints were observed.

Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas opened the evening. The Detroit, MI artist released their debut full album “Secret Evil”. Their set got the evening off to a good start. Fast paced and with a good ole rock’n roll feel it got the crowd moving.

Gogol Bordello are celebrating the 10 year anniversary of their record “Gypsy Punk” with a tour playing the full album and highlights from their almost 20 years as a band. This was my first time seeing Gogol Bordello live, and as a photographer the challenge is to keep up with all the things happen on stage. The group rotates the focus among their members, always returning to singer Eugene Hütz.
If you are reading this before their 2nd show on Saturday – get your butt to First Ave for Gogol Bordello’s 2nd show tonight!
